Those four seconds are important, but otherwise I second John. It's an
interactive piece if there ever was one. When it was first performed in
Italy, e.g., "the music" consisted of growingly furious cries and boos;
when in Scandinavia -- growingly embarrassed and broken breathing
accompanied by accidental coughs, and muffled nervous giggles from the
adolescent part of the audience.
