Well, I've read heard both Burroughs and Pynchon as being described as writing
this sort of "mutant breed" (as William Gibson calls it) of science fiction...
both writers take this genre and manipulate and experiment with it's conventions
in all sorts of unusual ways to the point where their works to immediately make
on think of SF but look closer and you begin to see many of the characters,
themes, subjects, etc. of SF in their fiction.
