Requesting a Western

Richard,

If you haven't read Thomas Berger's _Little Big Man_, that would be my
first

recommendation (don't know if it will meet your strangeness criterion,

though). There's also Oakley Hall's _Warlock_, which we discussed on the

list a while back, and which TRP endorses in his intro to _Been Down So
Long

. . ._ (and which I still haven't found, curse the luck).

Thanks, Skip. I'm actually engrossed in Blood Meridian thanks to this
group and I must say it's weird enough for me--some really wonderful
writing there.

On Warlock, I've tried to find it too. Strangely enough I happen to be
visiting a library out on Long Island that is connected with my job and
during my visit I happened to get a tour of the back-shelves where books
are or will be discarded. As we were talking, guess what book popped
out. Yup Warlock. Being as this was a work-related visit I couldn't ask
my colleague whether I could steal something from his collection. I
might go back to him if I get totally frustrated...no rare Pynchon's
hanging around (I checked) (sigh)

Anyway...
