here.  This "epic portrayal of economic determinism" seems to be

painting many of the same regimentation and exploitation of

individuals' attempts to craft their own way in the world.

Coincidentally I had sent a message to the group about Norris' book 
before veg's posting was posted.  Before choosing Blood Meridian I was 
looking for a western after seeing Dead Man and had picked up The Octupus
