I saw the following on a Mr. Showbiz movie review of the new film Mother
Night and remembered the old thread about who could direct GR.

	      "Mother Night is a film of ideas, and when's the last time you saw
one of
                   those? Gordon, whose last movie was the seriously
underrated
                   adaptation of William Wharton's A Midnight Clear,
displays an odd
                   and sincere interest in both postmodern fiction and
World War II; in our
                   dreams, perhaps he'd be the man to film Gravity's
Rainbow. For the
                   meantime, let's be thankful there's a young filmmaker
out there 	                          interested
                   in something other than gangster clichés and Sundance
Audience
                   Awards. --Michael Atkinson 

So I guess there's another candidate.
