I weigh in on Mr. Clark's side here.  I for one enjoy many of the
discussions that are, at best, peripheral to Pynchon.  If the list were
limited to in-depth analysis of the meaning of TRP's work, it wouldn't be
near as fun and I would bet that many current participants would lose
interest. I (generally) enjoy reading the opinions of such a diverse and
interesting group.  The occasional nastiness is, I guess, unavoidable,
given our simian ancestry. Now, if we were descended from phlegmatic
bovines...
