This reminds me of a plane trip from Bali to Dubai a few years ago. I had 
an old copy of V that I was reading for the first time. Two German ladies 
saw it and stated talking animatedly about TRP. One published a literary 
magazine, in German. For an article on TRP, she was strangely frustrated 
in finding a current picture of him. So she donned a leather jacket, 
pulled a cap down low and had a picture taken from the rear that showed 
just a glimpse of the side of a face. It was published with the caption, 

                             "PYNCHON???"
