I'll be damned.  It seems that a while back I posted some remark to the 
effect that Pynchon's names are often offhand jokes and need not be 
questioned too closely.  I think I had better retract that, rather humbly.

How about that Roger Mexico, then?  We talked about his first name, and 
the fact that Pynchon was living in Mexico, but is there more?

What can we find in Blicero besides blitz and zero (though that's already 
quite a lot to conjure with)?  What about Peter Sachsa?  Oh, the 
questions go on and on...
