So we are to regress back to a "golden age", because it would fit someone's
agenda?

Why not? Ever hear of doublethink? (;-)
Another example: On the Haitian Kwiol radio stations in Miami, there
are programs that undermine the germ theory of disease, announcing that
AIDS is just a fantasy and the audience should ignore public health
practices that should lower the spread of the disease... (could this
be more "Control" by "Them"?)
