4AD records is a wierd label. It used to be ultra-hip, mostly
specialising in ambient music before it turned into ambient techno.
Most famous signing has to be `The Cocteau Twins' whose album
`Treasure' includes a song `Ivo' named after the guy who founded the
label and who was instrumental in getting them onto vinyl. Their other
famous early signing was Bauhaus, the original `Goth' band - although
they really preceded the whole `Goth' thing and were regarded as part
of the Punk movement for their fist few years (and they are a damn
sight more interesting than most `Goth' bands). Check out `Bela
Lugosi's Dead' and their awesome cover of T-Rex's `Telegram Sam' with
a superb John Cale song, `Crowds', on the B-side.
