>From Wentworth & Flexner's _Dictionary of American Slang_:
"Jackson n. A term of direct address signifying that the addressee is
hep; usu implies group acceptance or approval. Orig. c1935 Harlem jive
use; wide use by jazz musicians and their followers, W.W.II Armed Forces
and student use until c1945; now archaic."
. . . or is it? Note in the _New York_ article that Jackson is the name
of TRP's son. As usual, his instincts for naming are right on.
In addition, I've been informed (maybe also in the article) that the son is named for P.s wife and her grandfather Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Jackson who was also chief prosecutor for the US at the war crimes trials after "guess what war?" (my informant's phase)
P.
