Well, you seem to have missed Tim's point entirely. It is in response
to your statement in the original note re the news group that an alt
group would give more people access to duscussion of pynchon than the
pynchon list. Actually, this is a misnomer.
Anyone who has email can use the pynchon list. To access
alt.fan.pynchon one has to have a) a news feed and b) access to alt
groups via that feed. These days almost no one who has a news feed
will be without email. However, many people have email who do not have
news and even where they do have a feed the alt groups are commonly
dropped either due to disk shortage or censorship. So, the list is
definitely no more exclusive than an alt group and is probably
actually less so. The first of these two conclusions is what Tim was
saying.
