For better or worse it looks like there is going to be a Pynchon news group.
The thing to do is to make it painless as possible.
There will be pain along with the advantages whatever they are I don't
dispute their existence.
As for the pain, I know I won't much like having to look in an additional place every day to make sure I didn't miss something.
So, can someone figure out a way so that all messages will appear in both
places once and ONLY once? So a person can chose one or the other mode
on any given day and not miss anything.
If this could be done, I doubt if there'd end up being much difference from the
p-list as presently constituted. The group is already heterogeneous. People pick and choose what interests them. (I'm assuming this). Even a slightly larger number of messages to filter through wouldn't seem to be a problem.
I'm basing this upon the ease with which MY mailer can sort in just about any
way imaginable. (This is just my assumption natch)
I'm not familiar with the software used to run a list or a newsgroup but
my guess is that it would be quite straightforward to route all messages sent the p-list to the newsgroup, and of course the reverse. The method used
would have to assure that there would be no duplication.
My apologies to the folks who would have to do the extra work of carrying
this out.
