Thanks! I was just gonna ask the same question, having just gotten a copy
of the magazine yesterday. We're told by Ms. Sales that this is the first
"confirmed" sighting of TRP since who knows when. My question is...
confirmed by *whom*? Since no one knows what he looks like, he can only be
"confirmed" by someone who does, or by himself. Is this part of the
pre-publication publicity blitz?

I do recall a Soupy Sales, but Sales is not really one of the more common
surnames...and Kirkpatrick is indeed rumored to be a friend of TRP. Nancy
Jo Sales is a contributing editor of "New York"--any of you New York
literati know anything about her background?

Regarding the "New York Observer" "preview" of "Mason and Dixon," which
casts them as a sort of dual-piston Maxwell's demon (there's a lot more to
it than that, as Steely posted), don't we fall into the old quantum
physics/participant observer situation here, that any act of observation
has an impact on the situation being observed. I can just imagine the wild
scenes at the publisher's now, as TRP wades in with a bog hoe to make major
changes to a work already in galleys as the result of this unexpected
"intervention."

Cheers,
Jeff
