Just thought I'd belly-ache about the fact that I haven't seen _The English
Patient_ -- read the novel when it came out ... speaking of which, now that
we're on a jazz topic, take a look at Ondaatje's earlier (and, IMHO,
superior) novel _Coming Through Slaughter_, about Buddy Bolden.

Haven't seen EP because the projectionists are on strike (or more precisely
were locked out) at the chain exhibiting the film in Toronto, a-and I don't
cross picket lines.

(This same chain had filmmaker John Greyson *arrested* at the Toronto
premiere of his film _Lilies_ for handing out leaflets and making a speech
before the film, protesting the gutting of the Ontario Film Development
program by the neo-conservative provincial government).
