I see Pynchon's use of homosexuality (at least in the sections dealing with
Mossmoon) as part of the '60s Left's discomfort with homosexuality, which
they associated with effete '30s Nazis...one finds this kind of thing
showing up in slightly different form in the work of Ken Kesey.  You know,
tough working class guys who like a woman after a steak-and-beer dinner, etc
etc (reminder also of Jack Nicholson's Devil in _The Witches of Eastwick_)
