The late-term morning sickness was also a bit bizarre, but quite an endearing touch as the sheriff has to excuse herself a moment from the crime investigation.
Maybe it's the coldness of that upper midwest "wasteland" that delays things
a bit.

W/r/t accents in _Fargo_. Having lived all over Canada, I've noticed
that the accent tends to crop up primarily in small towns- its definitely
prevealnet in Southern Ontario (outside Toronto) and in rural Alberta/B.C.
 Thanks a bunch! Aw jeez-
But yeah, as to whether the chars. in _Fargo_ seem to be caricatures of
themselves...The first time I saw the film , Idefinitely thought so - it
kinda seemed like a twisted dark comedy. The second time I saw it - I
dunno - I actually kinda empathized with Jerry Lundegaard and the
Japanese GUy ( Aw Margie! It's so good to see ya!). The film felt much
more human and tragic to me. Especially that final scene where Marge and
here husband stare at the television in bed together - pretty amazing.
I have to say - I love allthe Coen Bros. movies, (well maybe not
_Hudsucker_) but Fargo is the greatest. Just b/c it manages to avoid the
the kinda cold intellectual (although still wickedly funny) style of
_Miller's Crossing_.
