If the Coen Brothers receive an award it should be for writing the scene
where the Deputy talks to the fellow shovelling his driveway. That 2
minutes of film captures, more than any other piece I have ever seen, the
real spirit of small town Minne-Kota. I knew those two on-screen characters
when I grew up, and there are a bunch of us who miss them in an odd sort of
way. They define us, I think. Much like Slothrup and Pirate Prentice.
BTW. The furniture store owner in Raising Arizona, an earlier film by the
Coens, was a charicature of Rudy Boschwitz, Senator and owner of Plywood
Minnesota! Those two are wicked and genius.
