FARGO in Minnesota

Craig Clark's comments on FARGO were quite astute, I thought.

I have to note that here in southern MN, in a small city, the film ran through
rather quickly although it acquired a few passionate fans. I saw it in
the "hip" section of Minneapolis (i.e., what used to be called "Yuppie") and
the crowd in the independent, restored old theater there loved it, whooping
at every reference to Bill Diehl and Normandale Community College.

But read Viktor Shklovsky on "defamiliarization." If people in FARGO didn't
sound like Minnesotans, many Minnesotans have come to sound like characters
from FARGO!
