For several years (up until June, 1995) I worked just up the hall from
(Dilbert creator) Scott Adams. He and I even dated the same woman at one
point.  Nearly every day at lunch time I saw him sitting alone in the
company cafeteria, reading the SF Chronicle, which (unlike the other bay
area daily papers) does not carry Dilbert.  I never saw him reading a novel,
and to my knowledge he had no interest in Pynchon.  However, he uses e-mail
a lot, and it wouldn't surprise me if one or more of his e-mail buddies gave
him ideas related to TRP.
