Of the Rossettis

Thanks to Stuart for digging up the Ruskin rustin' quote: it *does* seem
to mesh wonderfully with Pynchon's themes!

As to his question:
"Does this all fit? Is there something else to the Rossetti reference?"

I would just add that the Pre-Raphaelites were a kind of artistic Counterforce
to the Victorian establishment of their day. (See--or don't--Ken Russell's
DANTE'S INFERNO for one idiosyncratic take on the group.)

It's notable that in the *novel* (but not film) of THE FRENCH LIEUTENANT'S
WOMAN, the Rossettis give shelter to the heroine.
