Re Freud and Cocaine:
I have a New American Library, Sigmund Freud, Cocaine Papers edited with
Intro by Robert Byck that lists a 1974 copyright Stonehill Publishing
Company and a 1963 Copywright on the key Cocaine Papers by Sigmund Freud
Copyrights, Ltd. London. Though the NAL text was first published in 1975,
the earlier copyright suggests that Freud cocaine papers had already been
published. Indeed, the chonology in the book on Freud and Cocaine
indicates
"1963--The first publication of the collected Cocaine Papers in any
language." Continuing into the books Intro (p xvii) "In 1963, they were
translated into English, read through by Freud's translator, Mr. James
Strachey, and published in Vienna by the Dunquin Press."
So TRP could have read these papers which have all sorts of fascinating
stuff in them. Anyway, this is an accessible source for those who want to
look into this further....
It seems upon further thought in this context that the Adenoid Fantasy
might be an LSD hallucination of a cocaine fantasy fueled by a
surrealistic vision of Dr Freud and cocaine, and indeed near the end of
the passage there is a reference to "admirers of Dr. Freud... shoveling
the new wonderdrug cocaine" and so on, so that it appears that Dr F and
drugs are in the (fun)house....
