 I think that we're being shown 
 that Surrogate Dreamer Prentice has been having Slothrop's dream.   
     

	If I've said this before (probably), sorry . . .

	Really think having the torment of Prentice's dream actually
	Slothrop's is an elegant way to introduce our Chief Preterite.

	Opportunity to show a side of him his everyday exterior could
	never communicate.

	Also nice way to immediately get at the second main theme of
	the book--namely the ever futile attempt to control events through 	technology. Which in this case is the technology of pycho-analysis
	I guess.

	Think Chris's analysis makes sense.
