One can't help wonder if AI researcher Terry Winograd, originator of the famous SHRDLU natural language computer program, was possibly a Pynchon fan.

W's  later work (e.g., _Understanding Computers and Cognition_
(with Fernando Flores) ) would lead to a belief that his scope 
extended far beyond the mathematico-logical paradigm.
