Banana peels contain the alkaloid bufotenine, which can also be found in
green peppers. It exists naturally in the human body and in greater
amounts in the skin of the common toad (Bufo bufo bufo), as well as in
certain mushrooms like Amanita citrina and Amanita porphyrea.
It is unlikely that the small amounts of bufotenine in banana peels can
create hallucinations.
The Danish standardworks on Halluginogenes by Sten Larris says that no
known examples of banana-induced hallucinations are known, although lots
of people have tried it and some persons mention great laughing
sessions, like those some people experience after smoking pot.
