Dull Echo

What I find disappointing in Eco is the distance this reader feels from
most of his characters. Sure there's lots of erudition and such but
fundamentally his books lack heart, sweat, breathing, suffering
characters. there's just a bunch of talking heads with names.
Literature should serve humankind not vice-versa to quote a drunken
Irishman. Foucault's Pendulum was pretty cold without being engaging, I
tried the Island, pretty dull. Just my own opinion.
