That's a great autumnal post, Jody, but I'd like to veer off on a tangent
from the following:

Among other eerily appropriate 49's, it's always intrigued me that
precisely 49 days elapsed in 1937 between the death of H. P. Lovecraft and
the birth of Thomas Pynchon.
