Beats me. I didn't read Vineland or even see it as we have been living
in Cancun since 1983 and they don't allow anything that smacks of
literature or culture to get past customs. It seems unlikely to me that
something published in 1989 would show up in a book published in 1990,
unless it was entered on the galley proofs. The lead time in book
publishing is very long.
