I seem to recall upon the debut of BB that there was publicity 
about Earl Mac Rauch, describing him as a self-sufficent, non-TRP
entity in his own right (write).  Some riff about being along-time
screenwriter with other credits, BB being his magnum opus chopped
up for studio release, etc, etc.  Of course, could have been a line
of disinformation too....
