Nope, it was in Esquire (I think the theme of the issue was 'favorites',
with "Thomas Pynchon's Favorite Band" being one of the cover headlines).
And it was pretty uncompelling as far as TRP's writing goes, but a
relatively straightforward interview (in other words, anybody could have
written it). A subsequent issue printed some letters about it, which had
the general tone of 'what the hell is Pynchon doing slumming with these
yokels?'
