"Though here's an odd bit of synchronicity:  this past Sunday I caught the
latter half of some old B&W movie being aired on the local PBS station.
Didn't catch the title but is starred Dana Andrews and Vincent Price.  It
was about a news reporter and a cop teaming up to develop a profile on a
serial killer."


Sounds like WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS, directed by Pynchon fave Fritz Lang (1957).
