I'm not a hoax. Get your dukes up, dude, when you say that. Where are
these public records and what do they say?

You'll find that much of what is in the public record comes from me in
the first place.

Playboy editorial director Arthur Kretchmer and his wife, Patricia, met
Judith Pynchon, Tom's sister, when we dated in New York in 1964 or 65.
She was studying in Pittsburgh and drove up to see me in her MG, which
was broken into while we were at a movie opening. All her clothes were
stolen, and she was wearing a formal dress, so we went over to their
place to borrow a dress from Pat. Didn't fit.

Lots of people at Cornell knew we were friends. You want to tell me
Chrissie's a fake, too? Show me a fact that could have been extrapolated
from the public record, I describe two different apartments in Manhattan
Beach, neither of which were ever revealed before my piece appeared.

Better, call Tom's father (I hope he's still around--really wonderful
man) and ask him if I exist. Ask his former agent, Candida Donadio,  if
she knows Jules Siegel and listen to her whine about how when I heard
she was in the hospital with diabetes circulatory problems requiring her
toes to be amputated, I wrote her: "Cutting off your toes to spite your
feet, Candida?"
