Mason & Dixon research

OK, so since I doubt that a "Reader's Guide to MASON & DIXON" is going
to appear at the same time as the work itself, I thought that it would
behoove me to do a little research before it appears.  Does anyone
here have any recommendations for relevant books?  They don't have to
be immensely scholarly, a good popular history would be fine.

I very much look forward to a Pynchonian eighteenth century.
