I happen to be a librarian and also dwell in this chaos we call NYC, 
Brooklyn actually.  I work at the Foundation Center library at 79 5th 
(b/w 15th and 16th).  I have a few good books on Pynchon litcrit (I'm a 
beginner as well, studied history in collage) if you would like to
