skull that *feels* made of metal

I've been trying to keep up with GRGR, but since I don't have a
modem connection in my office, contributing to it has proven difficult
(the UT comp lab reminds me of Oedipa's visit to Yoyodyne -- I'm
surrounded by at least 200 more or less industrious pair of hands.)

The talk about immachination and Pirate as a proto-cyborg or something
is interesting indeed, but my biased Finnish imagination has always
connected this sentence -- as well as "How awful. How bloody awful."
a little bit later -- primarily to a hangover.

Which is, of course, one form of belatedness: a day after.

In which case "rosy as a bunch of Dutch peasants" would probably refer to
Bruegel's "The Land of Cockaigne", which the painter presumably meant as
a protest against sloth (!) but which nowadays looks more like a
glorification of it. This painting where food runs and the wine drips
into the mouths of three peasants lying strawling.

But more about masculine utopias like this and the Banana breakfast
tomorrow.
