1)  Let us not forget to drag into this discussion of "scumble"
the novel SCUMBLER by writer-painter William Wharton.
2)  And not to put a damper on all this Wandering Jew motif-hunt,
but isn't Eugene Sue _more_ famous for his THE MYSTERIES OF PARIS,
which, as I understand from never reading it (ain't ignorance
bliss), one of the proto-conspiracy novels of the last century,
and hence a natural tie-in for TRP?
