Foreshadowing - Guess the Source

The passage in question is from Paul Auster's "Leviathan", ain't it?  And
yes, it does seem to be a fair summary of _some_ of what I expect from
M&D.

But if I remember correctly, Auster's narrator goes on to discuss how
the book, for all its ambition, is a "young man's novel" (meant in a
pejorative sense) and is fairly awkward, lacks natural rhythm, etc.  

Hoping Auster's "prediction" doesn't turn out to be too true,
