thinking of bringing THE SOT-WEED FACTOR up myself. I read on the list
recently predictions that M&D would resemble Eco's ISLAND OF THE DAY BEFORE
and it reminded me of something Bradford Morrow said at one of his readings
in the last two months. Somehow the topic of Pynchon's new novel came up
and Morrow was asked whether he knew anything about it through the
grapevine, in particular whether it was closer to GR than VINELAND. Seeming
to misunderstand the intent of the question, he said it was probably
closest to John Barth. I've presumed he meant THE SOT-WEED FACTOR. Judging
from the opening sentence I've seen on the list, Morrow may be right.
