Power corrupting

"Shakespeare probably said it best:  Power corrupts, absolute power
corrupts absolutely."


Actually, the guy who said it was that Lord Acton, who also said (TRP teaches
us), "The rope of history is not woven by innocent hands."

Perhaps that's all that one needs to say.

The 1995 film STRAWBERRY AND CHOCOLATE, by Cuba's leading director, Tomas
Guttierez Alea, about a friendship between a young revolutionary and an
apolitcal gay man.  (I still don't know how this got made, let alone nominated
for a Best Foreign Film Oscar.)

vs.

IMPROPER CONDUCT and NOBODY LISTENED, about human-rights abuses in Cuba against
gays and others, by the great Cuban-born cinematographer Nestor Almendros.
