In 1865, President ABRAHAM  LINCOLN was shot dead by actor John 
Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theater  in Washington, D.C.

In 1912, the world's  biggest passenger ship, THE TITANIC, struck an 
iceberg in the North  Atlantic on its maiden voyage and began to 
sink. Because it had been  billed as unsinkable, many onboard refused 
to believe the ship was  going down. Rescue ships saved 706 
survivors, but 1,517 sunk with  the ship at 2:20 the following 
morning
