Romans, Christians, Masons & Dixons,
I can't think of the name of that darn Cox movie I recently saw that so
closely related to P. concerns and obsessions. Naah, I'm gonna halfta run
to the video store to do this properly. . . .
I have something you don't have. No, not that. To wit: a British
paperback copy of V. (Penguin, not Picador) with a too-darkly-lit photo of a
far-too-thin Benny allegedly in the sewers on the cover. A cartoon bubble
reveals his thought(s): "Mmmm...three alligators...and no sign of V..."
Maybe it's supossed to be Stencil, but does that make sense? The fine print
on the back cover sez "For copyright reasons this edition is not for sale in
the U.S.A. and Canada." Picked it up at the local used bookstore for $4
(American). Just wanted to gloat a little. And provide an excuse for those
who already have an identical copy to shoot down my mock-hubris. Really
just wanted to share my pleasure at finding such a diamond in the rough.
Probably a dime a dozen in London or that goofy "used bookstore" town--if
not a dime, certainly no more than 8'6, according to the cover. Or is that
supposed to be the author's height? If so, this important biographical
information will certainly make Pynchon easier to spot.
Aw, screwit, i don't wanna go to no video store. It was sort of a modern
day western-cum heist flick, had Courtney Love in it, Jim Jarmusch. a silent
but ongoing cameo by Elvis Costello (as the butler). Dennis Hopper. Forget
who the leads were--oh, yeah, Joe Strummer was one of them. Lots of
caffeine abuse in it too as I recall. Surely someone has a better idea than
I of what I'm talking about and can fill in the spaces around the blanks
provided. Mighty po-mo self-conscious. I'll betcha Quentin saw it when it
first came out--oops, that's right, we don't like him here . . . I mean,
this shows what a rip-off artist Tarantino is.
In the meantime, I'm off to pen my next post-alternative pop indie hit
single, "I Don't Wanna Go to No Video Store." I foresee it as a
generation's angst-ridden cry stylistically reminiscent of the Ramones.
Lyrical suggestions invited.
Great tag line, murthy. Who's Blue Dog?
Eleven more non-shopping days. Apres moi, le deluge.
