Just a datapoint re Booksmith. They're a small independent bookshop on
Haight St. in San Francisco. A very far cry from Barns Ignoble or
Anaconda.com. They have an excellent selection, far more titles than you'd
ever find at a big chain store; lots of magazines and 'zines. The trading
cards are a bit of a gimmick, but not a terrible one. They do a lot of
interesting author events. As you can imagine very few of them involve
Danielle Steele or John Grisham types.
