I accepted my free copy and am looking forward to it, though not as
much as another soon to be released book. Jules has every right,
legal and moral, to avail himself of this public list in his project. I did
express my concerns privately to Dale about the politesse of using
posts without, if not permission of the writer, at least notification. I found Dale
to be prompt, gracious, and forthcoming, if unrelenting, in his
responses.

This project doesn't seem to be a simple compilation of posts, which
would be another issue entirely.. I think we all got to know Jules
well enough in October/November of last year to realize any project
he is involved in will be about Jules Siegel. He was obviously
deeply affected by his experiences here and it might be interesting
to hear his perspective. Bearing in mind his personality, it could
also be infuriating, perplexing, or just plain bizarre. I don't know
what it will be like, I haven't read it, and I suspect most
p-listers haven't either. I'm reserving any judgements on this work
until I see it at which point I might embrace it, denounce it, or
ignore it.

As for the insinuation that Jules hatched this scheme before his
subscription -- I seriously doubt it and only the Pynchon list
would spend an inordinate amount of time exploring that possibility .
If I remember correctly, Andrew Dinn invited Jules to the list.
This book is not going to rocket past Clancey and Grisham on the
NYT bestseller list. I doubt the film rights will be sold. Jules and
Dale are not going to become multi-millionaires from this
publication.

I think this entire matter should be dropped until we have our hardcopies
in our hands and then we can flame Jules all over again.

Thanks,

Michael Glosup
