My recollection is that Brad Templeton, the guy who started ClariNet news,
early on published a number of books that consisted of jokes submitted to
one of the humor newsgroups.
I also remember reading a book with "Unix-haters" in the title that was
culled and rewritten from a mailing-list or newsgroup.
If anyone is interested enough to want exact titles and the like, I can dig
them up. (Not a metaphor...I'll dig through my boxes of books.)
