I think that's exactly the thing to do.  I think that saying that your 
work "approaches the genius of ____" and so forth is a disservice to the 
inspring author.  If you really want to push a point there probably 
isn't a single post-'72 pomo novel that isn't inspired by GR - it was 
just too good to ignore.  But to actively pursue such a goal seems a 
little sketchy to me.  But then i'm still lokking for that url.
