Craig takes exception to my argument that there are mathematical facts
- But I think his example demonstrates what I was trying to say -
There is some point where theory and reality meet and the event which
takes place at that meeting must always be the same (combustion, for
example) however the explanation of that event can be completely
subjective - To tie this to M&D - One can look at a hundred different
images of George Washington and read a hundred different biographies
and ulitmately an understanding of the person will come out but this
understanding will never be "true" even though Washington was a real
person - When Pynchon takes the icon which we know as the father of
our country and plays with it the way he does he is adding something
to the way we understand the "facts" about Washington's life
