spiderwoman

I have to return to oxford tomorrow so i won't be getting the list.
There is one thing I wanted to say before I split,
about M&D, and two allusions which i thought were great,
yet I don't have my book here,
but as some may know,
the Indians believed that the world was created by the Spiderwoman,
who spit onto dirt or something, the very thing of creation itself, the
wisdom, etc, and
from this emerged, in a cloak, Two Twins,
These twins were to control and watch over the earth,
and guide all to song...
I don't have my Indian book here either, so I
can't tell you the names of the two twins but they
are big indian names beginning in P i believe...

I still haven't explored them separately,
but wouldn't it be great if the problem was
that the Twins were at conflict.

But Pynchon clearly alludes to this Indian legend twice that i
can remember. One when someone is talking and they mention how Indian believed
the world was created, then overlooked by twins, (i think), then the othewr
when the two are in NY for the final time before setting back out to sea and
they are move in the dark, cloaked.

The whole Indian belief of all being a web etc is totally relevant
also.

Just a thought,
it's been short but good as always,
take care,
hb
