Don't know about "gratuitous," nor do I speak for Henry M., but Starbucks
has just come into Austin like gangbusters, and already the fine and
plentiful home-grown coffee joints are beginning to shrivel.  Just call
Starbucks the Walmart of coffee--or maybe, given their homebase, the Bill
Gates of coffee.
