Scott wonders:
"Does anyone else have any Hitchcockian parts they would like to add ?"
One could find parallels with various bits of intrigue in THE SECRENT AGENT
and SABOTAGE (as you notes) as well as others. (BTW, TSA is based on the Ashenden
stories by Somerset Maugham, a-and there *is* that chase through the chocolate
factory). But the mention of settings for chase scenes in GR includes the
Statue of Liberty, which is the final setting for SABOTEUR (not to be confused
with the aforementioned SABOTAGE, which is not to be confused with SECRET AGENT
even though its based on Conrad's THE SECRET AGENT).
And Slothrop's Cary Grant imitation and the reference to him and Geli being
'
"north-northwest of the Mittlewerke" also suggests NORTH BY NORTHWEST.
