there's also a brilliant homage to Pynchon called "Gravity's Angel" on a
Laurie Anderson album called _Mister Heartbreak_. Quite a good record--
also has Burroughs and peter Gabriel and a million interesting oddball
musicians on it.

I heard this rumour that she asked Pynchon if she could make a musical out
of _GR_, to which pynchon responded with "it *is* a musical-- it's got the
ukelele librettos" or something to that effect.

Modern man likes to pretend that his thinking is wide-awake. But this
wide-awake thinking has led us into the mazes of a nightmare in which the
torture chambers are endlessly repeated in the mirrors of reason. When we
emerge, perhaps we will realise we have been dreaming with our eyes open,
and that the dreams of reason are intolerable. And then, perhaps, we will
begin to dream once more with our eyes closed.
